Nathan E. “Nate” Ward, 69, went Home to be with his parents, his brother and other relatives and friends on Sunday, January 6, 2019. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Susan, of which he celebrated his 22nd wedding anniversary on November 27, 2018. Parkinson’s Disease and dementia were the cause of his death.

Nate served in the US Air Force from 1971-1975 and achieved the rank of SSgt. He had his own masonry business and built foundations, houses, convenience stores, a restaurant and also his own beautiful home that he designed himself. He was a very hard worker, giving 150% and expected his crews to do the same. Nate loved the “old” NASCAR and was a die-hard Dale Earnhardt fan. He attended races for years with friends, and later with his wife, Susan. He loved lake fishing as well as surf fishing and said it was the only time he could put his mind on hold. Nate was loved and respected by so many people and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by several cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00-11:00 AM on Saturday prior to the service.

The family graciously asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Nate’s memory to MemoryCare, 100 Far Horizon Lane, Asheville, NC 28803.
