Born in Greenville, TN, she was the wife of Oliver Erwin of Arden, and the daughter of the late Walter Woodrow and Ida Mae (Shenault) Waddell. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James David Waddell.
Linda was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church.
She was a beloved teacher and began her teaching career in Bristol and Bedford, Virginia. She moved to Asheville in 1969 and taught at Valley Springs Elementary School. Linda taught fifth and sixth grades at Glen Arden and Valley Springs for 15 years before becoming curriculum specialist for Buncombe County Schools in 1984. As curriculum specialist, Linda supported teachers and students through classroom visits, workshops and individual planning. Linda was a member and active participant in professional organizations, including NEA, NCAE, and Kappa Kappa Iota. Linda retired after 36 years in public education. She was a distinguished educator, respected and loved by both students and teachers. She leaves a legacy of excellence, compassion and empathy.
In addition to her husband of 35 years, she is survived by a brother, John Waddell of Knoxville, TN and a sister, Betty Sams and her husband Gerald of Fletcher; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Skyland United Methodist Church with Rev. Joy Moss officiating.
