Nick was born in Alexanderfeld, Sagradovka, in the southern Ukraine of Russia. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1926 and settled in Winnipeg, MB. There he married Katharina "Kay" Isaak on 6 Nov 1943. They were blessed with 2 children: Marlene (1945) and Ronald (1947). In 1952 they moved to St. Catharines, ON where Kay passed away in 1976. He married his 2nd wife, Emily (Kuchma) Hawes on 15 Jul 1977. In 1980 they moved to Waterloo, ON.

With his family by his side at Lanark Heights Long Term Care, Nicholas entered the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 at the age of 88. Loving husband of Emily. Cherished father of Marlene (Walter) Dick and Ron (Meron) Boldt. Special grandfather of Gabe and Kate Boldt. Loving brother of Henry, Peter, Jake and Betty. Step father of Shirley (Ed) Henzel and Judy (Ron) Zehr. Step grandfather to Debbie Spicer, the late Mark Keil, Tammy Lipskie-MacDonald and Duane Lipskie. Nicholas is predeceased by his first wife Kay and his sister Anne Newfield. Great grandfather of Amy and Taryn Spicer. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, on Monday from 11a.m. - 12p.m. A Memorial Service will take place at 12p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
