William "Bill" Augustus Schaefer, age 82, of Cumming, Georgia died Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Memorial service with military honors will be 12:30 PM Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Mr. Schaefer was born in York, PA to Howard and Louise (Arnold) Schaefer.

Bill graduated William Penn Sr. High School in 1954 and then went into the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Bennington. Bill also graduated from Penn State University.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine "Gerry" Kleckner Schaefer; daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Pascal Racheneur, of Milton, GA; Sharon and Allen Hoerle, of Cumming, Georgia; twin grandsons Alex and Luc Racheneur. Bill worked as a plant manager for Exide Battery Company for over 40 years in California, Georgia and Iowa. Bill enjoyed winter sports with his favorites being Pro Ice Hockey and snow skiing. He was an avid bird watcher, learned their migration patterns, and fed them. He also loved golf, caddying as a young man, playing as an adult, and never missed a game during his retirement.
