Beverly Jean Garrett
September 25,1930 - January 2, 2019
On Wednesday, January 2, 2019, Beverly "Bev" Garrett, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, peacefully passed away at the age of 88.

Bev was born on September 25, 1930 in Willits, California to Bill and Lila Staples. After graduating from Merced High School, Bev married Robert Garrett in Merced and welcomed two children, Debbie Nelson and Mark Garrett.

Bev worked at the Merced County Auditor's office for 25 years and loved her job. Always the life of every party, Bev was known for her lively personality and infamous bright yellow 1965 mustang, which she kept in mint condition. Always ready for a social event, Bev loved the annual Gin Fizzes at the Merced Elks Club. She didn't know a stranger and had many friends, young and old, from all walks of life. She was also a huge animal lover and managed to teach her pet bird Barry over 250 words. Not wanting to turn anyone away, she provided a welcoming haven for all of the neighborhood cats, especially Mama Cat and Chubs, many of whom chose to stick around permanently. An amazing mother and grandmother, she always welcomed everyone to her home in order to enjoy her famous tuna sandwiches and Sunday football with pizza from her favorite spot, Pizza Villa.

Bev is preceded in death by her ex-husband Robert Garrett and Ralph "Sandy" Garcia, her soulmate of over 40 years. She is survived by her two children and daughter-in-law, Debbie Nelson and Mark and Renee Garrett; three grandchildren, Tiffany, Heather, and Brandon; and three great-grandchildren, Courtney, Caden, and Connor; her sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Jim Ellis; and sister-in-law Nina McDowell. Visitation at Ivers Alcorn Funeral Home on Monday, January 14, from 5:00-7:00pm.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at 10:00 am at Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home in Merced. Pastor Jeff Leis from Yosemite Church will be officiating with internment immediately following the service at Evergreen Memorial Park. Flowers may me sent to Ivers and Alcorn Funeral.
