William was born in 1842 to William Edson Beardsley and Mary Ann Judd in Connecticutt. We was a carpenter by trade and served one year in the Union Army during the Civil War - 1864-1865 notably at the battle of Richmond, Virginia. After the war, he married Louisa McClean Beardsley (1845-1909) and they had two sons, Charles Beardsley (1866-1931) and William Judd Beardsley Jr. (1872-1934). His father started a sash and blind company in Poughkeepsie, NY which became the largest in the area and William took over the business when his father died. William however died five years after his father died. Three generations of the Beardsley's are all buried in the same area in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
