Geraldine Mary “Gerry” Lawrence, age 92, of Quincy, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at 6:00 a.m. in Bickford Cottage.
Gerry was born November 12, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of August T. and Gertrude M. Speck Schmidt. She married Leonard T. Hettinger on May 30, 1949 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1969. She then married James H. Lawrence on May 23, 1970. He preceded her in death on September 28, 1993.

Gerry was a 1944 graduate of St. Michael Central High School in Chicago. While in high school, she was involved in band, and she played the violin and the drums. Gerry had been employed as an office clerk at the Chicago Public Library and Commerce Clearing House. She had also worked as a key punch operator for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and General Mills. When her daughters were young, Gerry had been a Girl Scout Leader.

After her retirement in 1977, Gerry and Jim moved to the Branson, MO area where she worked in concessions at the Shoji Tabuchi Theater for 11 seasons. Gerry had been a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Branson, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also spent her time volunteering at local nursing homes and volunteering at the public library. In her spare time, Gerry enjoyed knitting, bowling, and playing golf. Gerry was a voracious reader. She also enjoyed traveling, and her favorite trips included her numerous golf tournaments with Jim, and visits to South Korea and Cabo San Lucas with her daughters. She also loved listening to music, going dancing, and attending live theatrical and musical productions. Gerry was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox.

In 2007, Gerry moved to Curtis Creek in Quincy to be near her family.

Gerry’s family would like to thank the staff at Bickford Cottage for all of their loving care and support.

Survivors include: two daughters: Mary K. (Lon) Moeller of Quincy, IL; and Beth Hettinger Evans of Napa, CA; three step-children: Barbara Koch of La Grange, IL; Gregory (Teresa) Lawrence of Woodlawn, TN; and Joan (Steven) Kyriazes of Schaumburg, IL; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren; her sister, Imelda (Edward) Hettinger of Cherokee Village, AR; and her sister-in-law, Bernadette O. Schmidt of Aurora, IL.

In addition to her two husbands, Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marjorie Yunker; a brother, Vincent Schmidt; two step sons: Robert and Gerald Lawrence; and a son-in-law, Dennis Koch..

Services: 10:00 am Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Church of St. Peter, with Father Aaron Kuhn officiating.

Inurnment: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at St. Boniface Cemetery in Chicago, IL.

Visitation: at the time of service

Memorials: Blessing Hospice or Church of St. Peter.
