Services were held Saturday, January 12, 2019, twelve o’clock p.m. at the East Liberty Baptist Church, Center, Texas with Pastor Steven Standley Officiating. Arrangement by Hicks Mortuary, Center, Texas.

Jo Ethel was born on March 22, 1942, the 9th child of the late Oscar and Pearlean McWilliams, in Beckville, Texas. Jo graduated from Sunset School in Beckville.

Jo gave her life to Christ at an early age at Chapel Spring Baptist Church. God touched her hands and ears and Jo became a Minister of Music. During her many years of service, many churches and choirs have been blessed by her angelic gift. Sis. Garrett was a faithful musician for East Liberty Baptist Church for the male, senior and youth choirs for 34 years until her health began to fail.

Jo met and married the love of her life, Lawrence on November 19, 1961. Lawrence and Jo shared 54 amazing years and 4 beautiful children.

Preceded in death by; parents, Oscar and Pearlean McWilliams; husband, Lawrence; sisters, Leotha, Eddie B., Bobbie and Laura.

She leaves to cherish her memories; children, Gregory (Lisa) of Waco, Texas, Donald (Angelia) of Mansfield, Texas, Tammy (Brian) Marshall of Beaumont, Texas and Tracy (Larry) Chaney of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandchildren, Concia (Theodore) Douglas III, Ashley (Desmon) Remo, Charisse Garrett, Jarvare’ Garrett, Lanore’ (James) Mahammed, Abre’ (Destiny) Garrett, Gregory Garrett II, Christon Ballard, Sr. Daija Ballard and Donlad Garrett II; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Linnie (Frank) Miller of Palm Springs, California; Jimmie Johnson, of Palm Springs, California, Joyce Smith of Longview, Texas and Billie (John) Pollard of Marshall, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
