Pastor Billy Ray Kersey, 73, of Liberty went home to be with the Lord on January 6, 2019 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston. He was born on September 19, 1945 to the late Robert and Lessie Kersey. He is preceded in death by his brother Darnell (Marie) Beckner; a sister-in-law Rita Beckner; a grandson Nicholas Etter and a great-grandson Carson Etter.

Bill had pastored at several churches throughout Jackson and Putnam Counties. Joes Run Memorial, Plainview Church, and Goodwill Community Church all in Jackson County, Emma Chapel United Methodist Church, Liberty and Faith United Methodist Church, Black Betsy all had special places for Bill. He worked at Ceco Corp., WV Laborers’ Hall, Tolley Construction and lastly Yeager Land, Scott Depot.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy Kersey, daughters Tracy Kersey of Illinois, Amanda (Paul) Babbitt, a son Timothy (Heather) Kersey; special nieces Jessica Cochran and Vada Newman; grandchildren Joseph and Jessica Etter, Taylor Gottfriedt, Gabrielle Morford, Dalton and Emily Jones, Hannah and Gavin Kersey; step-grandson Jordan (Amanda) Babbitt; great-grandchildren Charleigh Etter and Xander Shook; brothers George “Frank” Beckner of New York and John (Stella) Kersey; brothers-in-law Jeffrey (Greta) Cochran, David (Belinda) Cochran, Galen Cochran; a sister-in-law Vonda Cochran; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11:00am Friday, January 11, 2019 at Emma Chapel United Methodist Church, Liberty, WV with Pastor Delbert Hawley officiating and Pastor David Kersey assisting.
