Phyllis Melby Phyllis Evelyn Melby,
neé Abear, 85 of Prior
Lake, formerly of Richfield,
passed away Dec. 30,
2018. A funeral service has
been held. A time of gathering will be held on Sunday,
Jan. 13 from 1 to 4 p.m.
with closing prayers at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home,
4565 Pleasant Street SE,
Prior Lake. Phyllis will be
laid to rest at the Deerwood
Cemetery. Her granddaughter, Lori Groven, will
act as urnbearer.
On Oct. 21, 1933, Phyllis was born in Deerwood to
parents, Fred and Chleo
(Terry) Abear. She was the
eighth of nine children. In
her youth, Phyllis enjoyed
playing tennikoit, dancing
to the jitterbug, and attending school functions. A
proud graduate of CrosbyIronton High School, she
never forgot her school
rouser!
On Sept. 22, 1956 at
the Deerwood United
Methodist Church, Phyllis
exchanged wedding vows
with Orville Melby. This
union was blessed with 53
years together. Phyllis enjoyed taking road trips, gardening, playing solitaire,
and baking her signature
chocolate cake for her family.
The biggest joy in Phyllis’ life was her family. She
loved and encouraged
everyone, not only her children, but her siblings,
nieces, nephews, and other
relatives. Whenever her
family needed her, she was
there with a smile and a
teasing remark!
A beautiful and loving
woman, Phyllis is missed
by her children, Debra
