David Lawrence Orr passed away unexpectedly on November 4, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold A. Orr. He is survived by his mother, Jacqueline Orr; his brother Allen Orr (Lynne); and by many close friends and a loving extended family. David was a graduate of Menchville High School and Christopher Newport University. As a youth he spent many wonderful years with his friends from the UMYF group at Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church. David's passion in life was music. He was an extraordinarily talented musician (guitar and bass) and songwriter. He spent many years playing in popular and influential rock bands, including long-running and internationally successful The Lift, with bandmates Bryan Forrest and Jay Culpepper, and earlier also including Doug Lewis and Tony Gattuso. Later he formed the multi-award winning band, Tusko Fatale, with Donnie Kepley and the late Bob Gurske. Both bands actively performed and recorded songs, many of them written by David. Most recently he was recording new music with Kepley and Culpepper. David was also a talented videographer and video editor. He worked professionally in this field, crafting music videos that were celebrated for their quality and creativity, and accompanying not only his own songs, but also those of national recording artists. A graveside service will be held at noon on Saturday, November 10, at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News. David loved animals, and, in lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA are welcome. Arrangements are in the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
