H/O Phyllis Jean Pennington PorterMr. Jessie James Porter, age 80, of Grayson, passed away Sunday evening, Aug. 14, 2016, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Carter County, a son of the late Drew and Nancy Blevins Porter.
Jessie lived in Michigan for many years developing affordable quality housing. He also was involved in several development projects, including, Emerald Isle. Jessie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and he enjoyed wood working, golfing, traveling, studying genealogy and spending time with family and friends, especially his daughter and grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Harriet Porter and one sister, Daisy Porter.
Jessie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Jean Pennington Porter; one daughter and son-in-law, Kristina and Martin Fitzgerald of Georgetown; two grandsons, Duncan Porter Fitzgerald and Connor Martin Fitzgerald; one brother, Harold Porter of Bellevue, Michigan; and one sister, Betty Croy of Braselton, Georgia. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Grayson Funeral Home in Grayson, with Brother Daryl Wells and Brother Bill Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the Eck Pennington Cemetery in Carter County.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, and until the service hour on Saturday at Grayson Funeral Home, 49 McCoy Road, Grayson.
Martin Fitzgerald, Michael Porter, Stuart Pennington, Daven Copeland, John Pennington, George Wells, and Ron Baker will serve as pallbearers. Duncan Fitzgerald and Connor Fitzgerald will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, Kentucky 41101.
