Russell Spencer Morgan passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 13, 2018 while he was riding up Nephi Canyon, a place that he dearly loved.

He was born in Nephi on April 27, 1944 to Fay and Reva Golden Morgan. He was the second of six children. He lived his whole life in the town that he loved. He excelled in sports and played on the high school football, basketball and baseball teams. He graduated from Juab High School in 1962. Upon graduation, he joined the Army National Guard and began working at NRP. He stayed with both throughout his life.

On October 14, 1966, he married the great love of his life, Betty Jo Greenhalgh, in Nephi. They had four boys: Larry (Mollie) of St. George; Bryce (Christin) of Redondo Beach, California; Kevin (Heather) of Santaquin; and Scott (Tisha) of Henderson, Nevada.

Family was one of Dad’s great loves and he devoted his life to teaching and supporting his family in all their ups and downs. He thought nothing of traveling across the state to watch granddaughters play softball or dance and looked forward to trips to California to watch his grandsons play basketball, volleyball, or sing. He even let his wife talk him into a trip to Hawaii to watch two of his grandsons play volleyball.

While with the Guard, he twice traveled to Germany for training and drills. These missions to Germany were a high point of his life, as he talked frequently of his love for the area and all the experiences he had. He retired from the Guard in 1987 after achieving the rank of Sergeant. In March 2011, he retired from NRP.

Russ was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved serving with his wife at the Juab County Jail to host Family Home Evening for the inmates. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and camping. He and Betty Jo traveled twice to Alaska, the most recent trip, accompanied by a sister and brother-in-law, just two weeks ago.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jo; his four boys and their spouses; ten grandchildren; two sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Nephi First Ward Chapel, 222 South 100 East, Nephi. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North, Nephi, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
