June 3, 1913 issue of Illinois State Journal: The remains of J. Lee Rankin, brother of Mrs. Rufus Lavely, arrived in Springfield yesterday morning from San Diego, Cal., and were removed to the residence of R. W. Lavely, 1200 South Fourth street. At 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon they were forwarded to Athens, where short funeral services were held and interment was made in Indian Point cemetery. The pallbearers were DeWitt Montgomery of this city, Offie Plummer of Rock Creek, William Turner, Edward Johnson, Henry Jones and George Boyd of Athens. Accompanying the remains of Mr. Rankin to this city from Kansas City were his sister, Mrs. Palmer, and Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Rankin of Lincoln, Neb.

Short death notice in May 29, 1913 issue of Illinois State Journal says he was a son of the late William Rankin and was born near Athens. He was survived by a wife, 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
