Richard Reede, August 16, 1932 - January 7, 2019

Richard A. Reeder Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2019 at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Sprenkle Drive in York. He was the loving husband of Dorothea (Patterson) Reeder; together they shared over 66 years of marriage.

Richard was born in Burnham PA and was the son of the late Ralph M. and Madalene (Havice) Reeder. He graduated from Lewistown High School class of 1950 and proudly served his country in the US Army and was honorably discharged. He worked as an Optician for Grove and Eisenhower Ophthalmologists in York for many years prior to retiring. He was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church in York , where he served in many church positions and sang in the choir for more than 60 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a proud supporter of the Philadelphia Sports Teams and Penn State football.

In addition to his wife Dorothea; he is survived by his daughter Linda Krout and her husband Keith of Spring Grove; her daughter-in-law Debbie J. Reeder of Pittsburgh; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Cindy Lou; his son Richard A. Reeder Jr., his brother Ralph L. Reeder and his sister Donna L. Rutherford.

A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Friday, January 11th at 11:00 am at Calvary United Methodist Church, 11 N. Richland Ave., York with Rev. Dr. B. Michael Brossman officiating, assisted by Rev. Roland Garvin and Pastor Richie Reeder. He will be laid to rest following the service at Prospect Hill Cemetery in York. A viewing will be held on Friday from 10-11 am at the church.
