MATTHEWS - Clay Stephen Porter, 14, of 401 Hall St., died at 12:15 a.m. Oct. 27, 1994, at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Nov. 4, 1979, at Sikeston, son of Armand Lee and Laura Ann Beck Porter of Matthews, he was a freshman at New Madrid County Central High School, where he was also a member of the marching band and served as freshman class Student Council representative. He was selected for Quiz Bowl competition for the 1994-95 school year and had coached little league basketball for third and fourth grade youngsters at Matthews.
In addition to his parents, surviving include: his maternal grandmother, Virginia L. Beck of the home; three uncles, Lee Beck of Sikeston, Virgil Porter Jr. of Garland, Texas and Jim Mills of Edwards, Ill.; and three aunts, Cheryl Lathum of Sikeston, Rochelle Past of Cape Girardeau and Valeria Barnett of Garland, Texas.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Virgil and Naomi Porter, and maternal grandfather, Walter Beck.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium of New Madrid County Central High School with the Rev. Larry Long, pastor of the First Christian Church in Matthews, officiating.
Burial will follow in Matthews Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: James Bates, Gary Kenedy, Rick Blankenship, Chris Porter, James Rhodes and Mike Pearson.
