AIKEN - After an extended illness Nicholas V. Martin, Jr., age 79 of Aiken, SC died on January 6, 2019.

Beloved husband of Nancy Sofge Martin, Nick was the son of the late Ulela and Nicholas V. Martin, Sr. He was born in Blackville on February 5, 1939 and was reared in Blackville, SC.

In addition to his wife Nancy, Nick is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer Anderson of North Augusta, SC; Jessica Martin of Sandy Springs GA, and Nikki Lynne Martin of Roswell, GA; two step-children, Janet Zielke of Summerville, SC and Jeff Davis of Waynesville, NC; six grandchildren, Johnathan Anderson, McKenna, Megan and Maryn Zielke, Walker and Tinlee Davis; brother, James O. Martin of North Augusta, SC; sister-in-law Carole Martin of Charleston, SC and special caregivers Annette Smith and Pam Reed. Nick was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Charlie J. Martin.

Nick was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackville, SC and attended St. John's UMC in Aiken. He was a graduate of Clemson University and a true Clemson Fan! He also earned a Master's Degree from USC and was a US Army Veteran. Nick worked for the SC State Department of Education (ITV). He volunteered with the Blackville Recreation Department and coordinated the athletic programs; was a Trustee for many years on the Blackville Board of Education. A true southern gentleman, Nick exhibited much gentleness and kindness throughout his life and will be greatly missed.

A graveside funeral service will be held eleven a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Blackville Cemetery with Dr. Thomas Terry officiating. A reception with the family will be held from 12:30 until the time of the service at St. John UMC, Aiken, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 10th at St. John UMC with the Dr. Tim McClendon and Reverend Bob Clyburn officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Growing Christian's Sunday School Class at St. John UMC and special friends. The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to DayBreak Adult Care Services and Halcyon Hospice for all of the care shown to Nick and the family during his illness with Lewy Body Dementia.

Folk Funeral Home, Inc. and Crematory, Williston, SC is assisting the family with arrangements.
