KATHRYN SULLIVAN

Kathryn Kristine Sullivan, 67, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019, at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines surrounded by her family. Services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, January 11, 2019, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 10, at Overton Funeral Home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Kathryn was born September 26, 1951 in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Dwight and Fontelle Leedom. She grew up in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa High School in 1969. While in high school, she met James Sullivan; they became high school sweethearts and married on August 28, 1971. They moved to Indianola in 1978. A dedicated and loving homemaker, she raised their two children, twins Karah and Patrick, providing home cooked meals and lots of sweets. After raising her two children, she worked as a valued Certified Nursing Assistant at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for 25 years before retiring. Kathi was loyal to her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and close friends. She loved animals and a good mystery, and enjoyed reading, playing word search puzzles, shopping, and telling stories to her grandchildren.

Jim and Kathi were a devoted and loving couple and enjoyed their time together whether at home or traveling and exploring other parts of the country – always taking the back roads.

Survivors include her husband, James; children, Karah (Kevin) Christensen and Patrick Sullivan; grandchildren, Hailey, Gavin and Lauren Sullivan, Emma and Halle Christensen; siblings, Randy (Sharon) Leedom, Molly (Michael) Grace and Tommy Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight Leedom and Fontelle (Leedom) Meadows, step-father, Bruce Meadows; sister, Karol Shaw.
