He was born on Jan. 1, 1970, at 3:15 p.m. in Hillsboro, WI, the son of Michael E. Gunderson and Joyce C. Matthews. Richard worked for several years as a vendor selling newspapers for Street Pulse. He was also the self-acclaimed band promoter for Street Pulse. Richard was a true people person. He enjoyed reaching out to the homeless and raising funds to help the homeless community. He supplemented his income by selling the Street Pulse newspaper on State St.

Rich loved his music; he was an animal lover, enjoyed making new friends every day, and dedicated many years working to make a difference. He loved to laugh, no matter what life gave. Richard had family but his true family was his street family.

Richard is survived by his father, Michael (Susan) Gunderson; step brothers, Todd Gunderson, and Kevin Gunderson; step-father and mother, Dominic Jr. and Roberta Pantaleo; half-brother, Dominic Pantaleo III; aunts, Judy (Mathews) Wood, Sandra Radcliff; and Debra Kastner; uncle, Richard Gunderson Jr.; and countless other friends, too numerous to name. A Celebration of Life will be held at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 203 Wisconsin Ave, Madison, on Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at 4:00pm. Richard will be laid to rest in the spring with his mother at the Dellwood Wisconsin Cemetery.
