Mildred Jean Reed “Midge” passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2019 at 74 years old. She is now pain free and at peace.

From her birth in Scipio, Oklahoma on December 13, 1944 to her death last Thursday, Midge was always the center of attention. She was born on a farm to the late Herbert and Ina Heskett and was the middle child of 11. Six of her siblings have also cleared a path to heaven for Midge.

She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Leroy Reed; Daughter Shelly Chavira and husband Eddie; Son Corky Butler and wife Cindy; Daughter Brandi Reed and Husband Michael; Daughter Amanda Cates and husband Mike; Daughter Shannon Ellis and Husband Chris; Eleven Grandchildren that made her life fuller and one great grandchild.

Midge was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her role as homemaker above all other careers she had throughout the years. She was always very proud of her family and was excited when her title included “Grammy” and “Gigi.”

Midge had a vivacious personality and enjoyed trips to the casino, family get-togethers, shopping and lunching with the girls, annual visits to the horseraces in Ruidoso and playfully bickering with her husband.

Until health conditions made it impossible, Midge was a member of the Amarillo Town Club. The gym was a very special place to her where she looked forward to water aerobics classes and chatting with her friends.

Midge was a free and authentic spirit. She didn’t stand behind restrictive social walls. She always spoke her mind, made friends everywhere she went, could make the whole room laugh and loved with all her heart. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

A private ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held in lieu of a service in the days to come. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Midge the last year. For those who have loved Midge in her amazing journey of life with us.

Should friends desire, contributions to a fund in her name can be sent to paypal.me/sjreed23
