Orangeburg - Mr. James Paul Joyner, 71, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at MUSC in Charleston. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at Rivelon Baptist Church in Orangeburg. The Rev. Kevin Ard will officiate. Burial will be in the Crestlawn Memorial Gardens of Orangeburg, with Masonic Rites. Pallbearers are Kenny Kinsey, Cody Hair, Jordan Johnson, Shawn Pound, Justin Joyner and Adam Jackson. The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Mr. Joyner was born Dec. 30, 1947, in Hindman, Kentucky, the son of the late William Garfield Joyner and the late Emma Jean Dyer Joyner. He was a Shriner, a member of the Masonic Progress Lodge #356, and a member of the Omar Temple. He was a self-employed carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Dawn Geddings Joyner of the home; one son, Jimmy (Hope) Joyner of Orangeburg; two daughters, Karen (Fletcher) Jennings of Charleston and Christie (Jamie) Canaday of Cope; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Ed) Collins; brother, Glenn (Debbie) Joyner, all of Orangeburg; sister, Dianne Anderson of Virginia; brothers, Mickey (Laura) Joyner of Orangeburg, Gary H. Joyner of Neeses, and Eric (Marie) Joyner of Cope; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg. Friends may call at the home of Eric and Marie Joyner, 176 Dusty Road, Cope and at the funeral home.
