He was raised in Clarksville, Texas before moving to Lindsay, Oklahoma where he lived the last 30 years of his life. Gary married his wife Glenda Kay (Henry) Potts in Konawa, Oklahoma on December 20, 1980. They were married 39 years.
Gary was a member of the Catholic church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his free time, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Gary is proceeded in death by his parents: Oval and Helen Potts, two brothers: Ronnie Potts and Jackie Potts, and one daughter-in-law: Donna Dutton.
A Graveside Funeral Service to honor the life of Gary will be held Wednesday January 9, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma with Brad Minick officiating.
