HOWELL, 96

LAKELAND - Long time Lakeland resident, Hazel Durner Howell went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 29, 2018, at age 96.
She was born in Waterbury, CT on November 29, 1922, to Loren and Hazel Durner, where she attended Waterbury Wiley High School before going on to Duke University School of Nursing, from which she graduated in 1945. She married Louis Moffitt Howell, M.D. on November 22, 1945, and they moved to Lakeland, FL in 1952. She served as a Chaplain's Assistant for 26 years at Lakeland Regional Hospital ER.
Hazel sang in the choir at First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland from age 30 - 91. Hazel was the matriarch of her family, she will be remembered for her kind, sweet, and loving nature; and as a faithful servant to the Lord. Her compassionate and gentle soul touched many lives, from those of her immediate family and friends, to those she assisted as a Chaplain, and will never be forgotten. Hazel was a lover of classical music and a talented pianist, birds, nature and her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children: Louis Howell, Loren (Becky) Howell, Kenny (Ann) Howell, and Anne Howell Chiles; and grandchildren Kristopher Howell, Craig Howell, Ashley Chiles, Christin (Brant) Masters, and great granddaughter Britton Howell.
For those whose lives Hazel touched, there will be Celebration of Life at First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland on Saturday, January 5th at 11:30am.
