Joe was born November 1, 1926 in Carbondale to Clyde and Lora Adams Stewart. He married Shirley Marlatt in June, 1946 and she preceded him in death. He later married Joy Anderson September 17, 1983 in Peoria and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy (Michael) Nicodemo of Huntington, NY, Linda (James) Anderson of Richland, WA; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-sons, William (Connie) Marlatt of Clio, MI and Michael Marlatt of Eagle River, WI.
He was preceded in death by one step-daughter and her husband, Susan (Darhl) Brown; two sisters, Connie Alty and Mary Maas.
Joe was a WW II Army Veteran.
He received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois in 1949.
Joe worked for AT&T 35 years, retiring as District Manager in 1984 and achieving Supervisor of Service Center in Illinois.
He was a member of the Rotary and Chamber of Commerce in Chicago and a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Peoria
He was an avid gardener and reader.
Funeral services will be at 1 P.M. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at The Wilton Mortuary with the Reverend Anna Saxon officiating. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 P.M. on Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
