Alwood Anthony Harang passed away on September 26, 2015 at Providence Medical Center in Everett, Washington. He was 62 years old.

Alwood was born on September 19, 1953 to Lars & Adeline Harang in Mount Vernon, WA.

Alwood attended school in Mount Vernon until the age of 14 years old. He then finished his education at Rainier School in Buckley, WA. Upon finishing, he moved to Seattle where he lived for 5 years and worked in the custodial field. In 1977 Alwood moved back to Mount Vernon. He always said that there was no place he would rather live than his beloved Skagit Valley.

Growing up in Mount Vernon, Alwood spent most of his free time on the banks of the Skagit River. If you couldn't find him at Young's Bar fishing, then you could probably find him at Larson's Bar, which were his 2 favorite fishing spots. It wasn't uncommon to see him riding his bicycle through town with his fishing pole in one hand, his tackle box hanging on the handle bars, and our family dog running along by his side.

The most important thing in the world to Alwood was his family. He never forgot a birthday and attended all the family gatherings he could. He was especially proud of his niece Jillian, and his 2 nephews, Dusty and Erik. He had a special bond with Dusty, as they both liked to go fishing.

Even though the last couple years were so hard for Alwood due to his health, with each day being a challenge, he always looked for that ray of sunshine and glimmer of hope that things would get a little bit better. He would always say "You know me, I never give up." But finally his body just couldn't go anymore. He passed away peacefully with the window of his hospital room facing north so he could look out and see towards the direction he always called home, his beloved Skagit Valley.

Alwood is survived by his sister Kathy (Dan) Matsen of Montesano, WA, his 2 nephews, Dustin Matsen of Edmonds, WA, Erik Matsen and his 2 children, Olivia & Alexander Matsen of Montesano, WA, and niece Jillian (Allen) Peterson and their daughter, Annaleigh Peterson of Aberdeen, WA.

Alwood was preceded in death by his mother, Adeline Hobson, step-father, Harold Hobson, father Lars Harang, his grandparents and many uncles and aunts.

For those of us family members and friends who loved Alwood so very much, we will always remember him for his kind and loving spirit and his heart of gold. He will forever live on in our hearts, and never be far from our thoughts.
