Patsy Blackwelder Carter, 83, of Mooresville, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. She was born on March 9, 1935, in Iredell County, NC, to the late Junius and Essie Arthurs Blackwelder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Thais Hart, Thelma Caldwell, Sarah "Boots" Craig; and brother, Hal Blackwelder. Pat loved life, family and friends. She graduated from Mooresville High School in 1953 and married Duane, her high school sweetheart, after 5 years of courtship. Through 61 years of marriage, they were best friends and partners in life. Shortly after their marriage, they began a family and the first of 7 moves. In each city, Pat made great friends and was a great friend to many, taking her love of entertaining and days full of laughter with her. Throughout the years, she maintained and treasured these decades’ old friendships. She made a loving home for her family at each step of the way. The last move was a return home to Mooresville, where over the years Pat owned and operated Pat's Outlet, a women's clothing store, and worked for Feimster's Jewelers. She was a longtime member of Fair View United Methodist Church and one of their Golden Nuggets. There are many things for which Pat will be remembered, among them her love of music, dancing to her favorite beach tunes, playing the piano, and planning get-togethers for family and friends. She loved spending time with her girlfriends and for over 30 years, she and Duane were members of the Carolinas Airstream Club, where they had the opportunity to travel and develop very special relationships with their camping friends.

Her favorite times were those spent with family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always remember their PatPat, as they called her, playing games with them from the toy closet. She loved the holidays and spent months planning to make it a special time for family, always taking time to choose that perfect gift for each family member and friend. To her children, she was constant love and friendship, always there to encourage and support them. She was happiest when her family was together. Pat will be remembered for her smile, her faith, her joy in life and her infectious laughter, always her laughter.

Pat is survived by her loving husband, Duane; children, Pam Mason (Perry), Connie Poore (Jeff) and Derek Carter (and friend, Debbie Rogers); grandchildren, Shannon Woodall (Josh), Erin Poore, Anna Smith (Josh), Hannah Goodman (Colby) Brad Mason, Andy Poore, Ashley Laurel (John) and Adam Poore; 5 great-grandchildren and another one on the way and her constant canine companion, Boo. Services will be held on Sunday, January 6, at 3:30 PM at Fair View United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Harrison officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Fair View United Methodist Church, 1430 Mecklenburg Hwy., Mt. Mourne, NC 28123 or Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
