OKLAHOMA CITY
Cecilia Madison Holmes was born in Oklahoma City to Howard Cecil and Wynona (Marks) Holmes. She attended Wilson and Putnam Heights Elementary schools, Harding Junior High, Classen High School, and The University of Oklahoma. She married William Albert Springall, Jr. in 1949, and they had three children. In 1963, Bill and Cecilia founded Springall Travel-Tour, which enabled Cecilia to travel the world as she explored destinations and escorted groups. Following her divorce, Cece and her son, Bert, established CeBert Travel in 1985. She later continued her work in the travel industry with All About Travel. In 1993, at the 45th Reunion of Classen High School's Class of 1948, James L. Cole, the class president, completely charmed Cecilia, a former cheerleader. They married in 1994, and she gained three wonderful daughters. Jim and Cece enjoyed travel, dancing, being with family and friends, attending theater and OU football games, and their involvement at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, where Jim was a chairman of the Docent Council. Cecilia was an active member in numerous social and arts organizations, including Ladies Music Club, Junior Hospitality (performing in many follies), Music and Drama Club, Clubettes, Alliance Club, Stage 3, Redbud Women's Club, Bosom Buddies, McDowell Club, OKC Orchestra League, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, and the Classen '48 Reunion Committee. She also enjoyed weekly Booray card games with her friends at Quail Creek Country Club. She was a gracious and thoughtful hostess who never met a stranger and made everyone belong as she opened her home for special events, club meetings, and gatherings of family and friends. She was a giving person who was classy, fun, "up" for anything, and interested in everything and everyone. Her busy social life surpassed that of all her children and grandchildren combined! She ran circles around us all and still made time to support us and our every endeavor. A 25-year survivor of breast cancer, Cecilia died at home, in the embrace of her children and two granddaughters, after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. We will cherish her influence on us and memories of her loving, kind, and vivacious nature. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Cole; and brother, Howard Wynn Holmes (Betty Jean, d). She is survived by her sister, Virginia "Ginny" O'Leary (Norman, d); brothers, Philip Holmes (Patricia, d), Lee Holmes (Lyn), and Tim Holmes (Phyllis); her children, Anne Springall, Cathy McInturff (Ron), and Bert Springall (Debbie); five grandchildren, Kelly McInturff (Belkis), Andrea Brakefield (Scott), Jennifer Milligan (Shawn), Leslie McElroy (Jonathan), and Cason Cabebe; three stepdaughters, Carol Cole, Deborah Vatani, and Melissa Cole; their children, Malina Keutel, Adin Biederman, Alex and Anna Vatani, Daniel and Michael Caudle; eight precious great-grandchildren, 12 treasured nieces and nephews (and their children), and many dear friends. A Celebration of Life will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 W. Hefner Rd., OKC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
