Henry J. "Joe" Bailey, 83, passed away on May 1, 2007 in Kingwood, Texas. He was born September 10, 1923 in Glennville, Georgia to William Henry Bailey and Emma Kate Durrance. Early in life his family moved to Tampa, Florida where he grew up and attended Hillsborough and Thomas Jefferson High Schools. Joe enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and flew a P-38 with the 10th Air Force in the CBI theater, primarily in Burma where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After returning home, he married Margaret Selby Sipple (Peggy). He worked for several years with W.H. Bailey and Son before joining Jim Walter Homes in Tampa, Florida. He later moved to Houston, Texas in 1955 as Regional Manager and Vice President, retiring in 1973. Joe was later co-owner and operator or Floratex, Inc. specializing in growing and marketing Bromeliads. He was active in the Houston Bromeliad Society and was a charter member in the Caloosahatchee Bromeliad Society in Fort Myers, Florida. Joe was preceded in death by his son, Steven G. Bailey and is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Peggy; son, Don B. McPherson of Kingwood, TX; grandchildren, Heather (Brant)Snap of Owasso, OK, Lauren M. McPherson of Boston, MA, Shelby E. McPherson of Humble, TX, and four great-grandchildren.
