Darrell was born the third child of Eugene Victor and Minnie "Bradley" Howard. He had an older sister Ila Maxine, an older brother Robert Duel, three younger brothers, Donald Ray who died at 10 months old, Edward Lester and Victor Leon. His early years were spent in Hollis, Oklahoma. The family moved to Taylor, County, Texas about 1942. Darrell married Barbara Jean Walker (1936-1999) on December 18, 1954, they had two children, Carolyn Jean and Ronald Dean. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 17 great grand and 4 great great grandchildren, also numerous step children, grands and greats. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Ray, sister Ila, 2 grandchildren and his wife Frances Nichols (1921-1986). He is survived by 3 brothers, Duel, Edward and Leon, his wife Sharron "Duprey" Howard many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends whom he loved and was loved by.
