Young wife of William Edmundson "Grumble" Jones who was swept overboard from his arms in a shipwreck off the Texas coast shortly after their marriage. Tombstone reads in part: "Sacred to the memory of Mrs. Eliza M. Jones. The wife of Lieut. W.E. Jones, U.S. Mounted Rifles. She was born on the 3rd of May, 1834 in Washington Co., VA, was married on the 15th day of January, 1852 and was drowned on the 26th day of March of the same year when ____ putting to land from the wreck of the steamship Independence at Pass Caballo, Texas. She was personally beautiful, had a sweet disposition, and an intellect uncommonly brilliant. The early death of so ______ a sister........."
