Jana Layne Kraner Austin died peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, January 2, 2019 at the age of 59. She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on May 15, 1959 to Robert and Jan Kraner. Jana earned a BA in English from Abilene Christian University and a Masters in Counseling from Vanderbilt University. She spent her entire career teaching English and Literature while raising two incredible children, Erinne and Austin, with her husband Mark Edwards in the Nashville area. After 24 years of marriage, Mark died suddenly and Jana was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s disease. In 2012, Jana married a long-time friend who became her wonderful caregiver and husband during the 7 years they had together.
Jana is survived by her husband of 7 years, Alan James Austin; her parents, Robert and Jan Kraner; her son, Austin Julian Edwards; her daughter, Erinne Hope Edwards; stepsons, Hunter James Austin and Hayden Smith Austin; brother and sister-in-law, Cliff and Dena Kraner; brother and sister-in-law, Rob and Courtney Kraner along with some of the best nieces and nephews on the planet.
