Born in Frederick, Melvin was the son of the late Dorsey G. and Carrie Elizabeth Cramer Cook. He attended Frederick High School, and married Shirley May Kline on June 6, 1958, two days after she had graduated Frederick High. Melvin was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1960. He was a skilled carpenter in the construction trade, and he also worked at Hood College for many years. Melvin loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter.
Mr. Cook is survived by his daughter, Lori Dixon & husband Brent; a sister, Betty Nicholson; special friends Jim Haines and Gail Albright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Meredith "Bud" Cook, Richard Cook, Millard Cook, Ruth Burns, Mabel Shankle, Marie Bates, and Frances Cook.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 6th from 6 - 8 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy. in Frederick, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 7th (Casual attire is requested). Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue (www.magsr.org).
