Dale (Jack) Grotenhuis, age 80, of Jenison, MI entered his heavenly home on Friday, August 17, 2012, following a bout with pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer.

Dale was preceded in death by his son, Jack Michael, in 1983 at the age of 27.

Dale is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor (Veldman); children: Bob Grotenhuis of Kalamazoo, MI, Rev. Phil (Joy) Grotenhuis of Phoenix, AZ, Tom Grotenhuis of Holland, MI; four grandchildren: Erin (Jason) Furman, Jonathan, Aria and Brielle Grotenhuis; sister: Mary Ann Grotenhuis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jim (Gracia) Veldman, Laurie (Ellis, deceased) Deters, Everett (Joanne) Veldman, Dan Veldman, Rick Veldman.

Dale taught vocal and instrumental music at Lynden, WA Christian High School, Unity Christian High School in Hudsonville, MI. He was chairman of the music department at Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA, where he taught music courses and directed the choirs and band. Dale retired in 1994 after 35 years at the college. Dale directed numerous festival, community and church choirs both in Iowa and Grand Rapids area, most recently at Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church in Jenison. He was an active composer of choral music with more than 300 pieces published.

A memorial service will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone United Reformed Church, 6442 36th Ave, Hudsonville, MI, with Rev. Phil Vos officiating. Visitation will be at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Private interment at Winchester Cemetery, Byron Center, MI. Memorial contributions to Dordt College Music Department, or Sunset Manor Benevolent Fund in Jenison, MI would be appreciated.
