Arcadia – Jim Simmons, 1939-2019, passed peacefully on January 2, 2019 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born in Henderson, Texas, son of Robert Davis Simmons and Anne Margaret Bunch Simmons, Brother to Carolyn Simmons Redding.

He attended and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1957 and attended Louisiana Tech University, graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He then married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Peeples of Homer, Louisiana. He worked in the oil and gas industry for over 34 years, finishing his career at Mid Louisiana Gas in Houston, Texas, serving as a Senior Executive. He was formerly a Senior Executive for Arkla Gas in Shreveport, Louisiana and Celeron Corp. in Lafayette, Louisiana. He also worked at Sonoco Products, Coastal States Gas, and Exxon.

He loved fishing and bird hunting. He loved listening and singing to music while driving in his truck, often playing Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of The Bay”. He loved feeding the family dog oatmeal cookies and gardening while the cat stood guard. He loved football and autumn and working outdoors, especially in his backyard. He loved trying and failing to pronounce Worcestershire. He loved reading. He loved traveling and learning about history. He loved playing tennis and volleyball with his family and friends. He is sincerely loved and he will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon Elaine Peeples Simmons, daughters Suzanne Snell, Mary Beth Baker, Melissa Lyles and son Joel Simmons; sister Carolyn Simmons; granddaughters Courtney Baker, Gabrielle Snell, Madeline Snell, Olivia Baker and Brook Lyles; grandsons Greg Baker, Matt Lyles, Will Baker, Jack Snell and Josh Lyles; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws, and many sincere friends.

Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and cherished friend. He touched the hearts of many and was a true blessing to all who knew him. To celebrate his life, Reverend Dr. William Peeples will conduct a service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, Louisiana. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Baker, Will Baker, Matt Lyles, Jack Snell, Josh Snell and Robert Redding. Burial will follow at Mount Mariah Cemetery in Arcadia Louisiana.
