Larry “Zeke” Ziegler, 59, Garrison, died Dec. 1, 2003, at a Garrison hospital, after his battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, with the Rev. Dick Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in Garrison Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.
Larry was born Oct. 25, 1944, in Portland, Ore., to Clyde (Pat) and Eileen (Rodgers) Ziegler. He was raised in the Emmet area, where he farmed all his life. He was a graduate of Garrison High School and attended Minot State College. He married Barbara A. Haugen on Sept. 6, 1963, in Roseglen.
He was a member of various agricultural and political boards and committees. He was presently a council member of St. Paul Lutheran Church ELCA, member of the Garrison Lions Club, director of the North Dakota Barley Council and president of the McLean County Fair Board. In November, the North Dakota and South Dakota Association of Fairs named him North Dakota Fairman of the Year.
He was a member of the North Dakota State Fair Association, member of the Sakakawea Area Council for the Arts, Kem Temple Shrine and the Sakakawea Chapter Maximum Economic Yield (MEY) Club.
Larry loved to golf, hunt, fish and volunteer. He loved people. He was always interested in what others were doing, and was a constant presence at many community functions. He created a lighted float for Garrison's Dickens Village Festival. He especially enjoyed following his grandkids' activities.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughters, Debra (Barry) Rasmuson, Minot, and Karen (Jeff) Skjold, Fargo; his son, Steven (Dawn) Ziegler, Hazen; his mother, Eileen Ziegler, Garrison; his brother, Dan Ziegler, Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Kelsey and Ethan Rasmuson, Khale and Clair Skjold, and Samantha, DeeAnna and Stephanie Ziegler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; and one son, Tom.
