Oil Operator of Los Angeles, California. At the time of his death, he was president of the Mascot Oil and Topila Petroleum companies, with controlling interests in the Illinois Crude Oil and Premier Oil companies. He was the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor of California in 1910. Tim Spellacy became successful in the oil business in Pennsylvania and Ohio, coming to California in 1908. He worked the Midway, Coalinga and Kern River oil fields of Bakersfield and Fresno for six years, and came to Los Angeles in 1914, where he was president of the California Willite Paving Company, and a community leader. He served as a member of the Los Angeles County Civil Service Commission, and was vice-president of the Sierra Madre Club. Due to ill health, he traveled back to Ohio seeking treatment, where he died unexpectedly at age 67. Son of John and Ellen (Byrne) Spellacy of Pennsylvania, his brothers Michael and Peter E. Spellacy were also wealthy oil operators of Los Angeles. Husband of Elizabeth (Doty) Spellacy, they married in Ohio in 1893 and had two daughters, Florence and Mary.
