Lena Katherine "Kate" Brown Allen
Kate was born December 7, 1925 to Homer and Jenny Brown in Retta, Texas. She had 7 siblings: Margie Russell married to Buck, Milton Brown married to Virginia, Mary Vogt married to Ralph, Van Brown, Jean Whitley married Tommy, Bonnie McKnight married to Bonnie, and Buddy Brown married to Mary. She had 21 nieces and nephews.

Kate turned 16 on Pearl Harbor Day and went to work at Texas Steel to make munitions for World War II. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" girl which carried with her through her whole life. When she was 17 she met and married Hawley Allen who had dated her big sister Jean. He became a Marine and while he was gone she gave birth to their first born daughter, Linda. When he returned from the war they were blessed with 4 more children; Terry, Gary, Russell and Christy.

After a few years, Kate and Hawley divorced but remained friends throughout their life along with Hawley's new wife Martha. It was a great relationship with all of the kids and grandkids. Only love.

Kate went to work at Texas Instruments making transistors and stayed there and retired after 25 years in 1972. Then she went to work with Hawley and Martha Allen selling yellow page ads, going from town to town and business to business. She had a ball!

The thing she loved the most was ALL of her family. She would go visiting every week to see all she could see. She would drive them to doctor appointments, massage their aching bodies, clean their house, take her eldest sister, Margie, to the grocery store while she would read each food label and check the pricing.
She loved picking them all up and go to the cemetery to see all of their loved ones or drive to Oklahoma to visit her big brother Van. He was the black sheep of the family but she loved him dearly and so did we. Except when he asked 8 year old Clint to taste one of his peppers from his garden then laughing hardily while he cried!

She helped all of her children and grandchildren if they needed help. She would help Linda with her house and took care of her when she had cancer, she was so proud of Terry, Gary and Russell as they went into the service. She helped us all when we were in need, and counted on Russell for all of his handyman skills. Her best Pal was her daughter Christy. They never had a cross word after Christy moved with her dad at 14 - only laughter and joy! Kate and Christy loved bowling on the Sagamore Hill bowling league weekly and eating fish at Bill Martin's! Kate fell in love with Christy's husband Mike and adored him and he took care of her well.

Kate was the best at Scrabble and crosswords and would let you win every once in a while. She had the prettiest yard on her block and always kept her house painted and decorated well. She always made Christmas special having everyone over to her small home where she cooked her delicious casserole, beans and pies. She loved having all of the grandchildren over at the same time, then cooking animal shaped pancakes for each one the next morning.

She never complained that someone didn't see her as often as they should. In fact, she didn't complain about anyone - well except Hawley - ever now and then.

Linda married Jim Henley and had 3 children, Terry married Brenda and had 2 children, Gary married and had 2 children, Russell married and had 4 children and Christy married Mike and had 2.

The grandkids were Tina married to Darrell Marcus, Michael, Melinda married to Erik Woodward, Tony, Amy married to Ben Alvarez, Amanda, Jenny married to Jarrod Hogue, Diane Catrice married to Thomas Tkadlec, Holly married to Willie Ybarra, Toby married to Alexis, Ryon married to Rebekah, Clint, and Heidi married to Dave Gilstrap.

The great grandkids were Ashley married to Scotty Schwemer, McKenna, Mason, Melia, Van, Marissa, Autumn, Isabella and Josie, Tomas, Sofia, Cameron, Devin, Brennen, Brady, Lacey, Angelo, Liam, Chase, Noah, Bryce, Kiyah and Jack.

The great-great grandkids were Zailyn, Sadie and Carter.

She will be missed sorely as the light of our family. Her laughter and fun ways. Her cute dancing to music. Just everything about her! We love you Mother!
