E.Dewitt Jones, 93, of Jonesboro and Shreveport, passed away on January 1, 2019. He was born in Bienville Parish, Louisiana to William H. and Myrtie Shively Jones, both deceased. Also preceding him in death, Eleanor Alexander Jones, devoted wife of 67 years; brother, William H. Jones, Jr.; sister, Florence Jones Kirkpatrick; and son-in-law, James Robert Ferriss.

He is survived by children Elwin D. Jones, Jr. (Pat Aulds), Rosalyn J. Ferris, and Janet J. Mott (Michael), nine grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren, and sister Opal Jones Wimberly.

Dewitt and Eleanor were lifelong members of the Jonesboro First United Methodist Church and the Friendly Knights Sunday School Class in which Dewitt was a regular and engaging teacher. He was also a member and frequent soloist of the Church chancel Choir and had a special fondness for the director, Edith Key ("Teacher").

Retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Dewitt served over 42 years working from a part-time letter carrier up to the position of Postmaster of the Jonesboro office, as well as National Vice-President of the Postmaster's Association.

In 1964, Dewitt, along with Walter Rogers, M.J. Westbrook, Louis Butler, Edsel Ewing and others established the "One-Eyed Moose Hunting Club". With a camp house south of Chatham, Louisiana, a generation of fathers and sons enjoyed the annual deer hunts where all had a share of the kills at the end of the season. Whether hunting deer in Louisiana, elk in Colorado, or chasing golf balls at the country club, you would find him enjoying the outdoors.

A visitation will be held at Edmonds Funeral Home for friends and family between 10 and 11 AM on Friday, January 4, 2019, with a graveside service service following at 11:30 in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dewitt's grandchildren, Trey Jones, Stuart Ferriss, Will Jones, Janelle Mott Hudson, Paige Ferriss Humphrey, Joel Jones, Clarke Ferriss, Sarah Jones and Emily Jones.
