Son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Samuel and Mary (nee Patton) Cook. Brother of slain Saint Louis Police Officer Bernard T. Cook. Husband of Mrs. Martha Cook.

Mr. James "Louis" Cook suffered a heart attack while he was getting off of a bus at the bus depot in Springfield Missouri. He was rushed to an area hospital where the attending emergency room nurses administered oxygen to him. Mr. Cook lived long enough to supply the nurses with his personal information before he expired several minutes later when he succumbed to the heart attack.

Burial was help at the St. Denis Cemetery in Shipman Illinois.
