Mrs. Helen M. (Mahoney) Bernier, age 99, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, December 31, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late Ernest Bernier.
Mrs. Bernier was born on February 5, 1919 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Michael and Helena (Stieler) Mahoney. Helen was a graduate of Crosby High School, Class of 1937. Helen was a hairdresser for a few years prior to marrying the love of her life in 1941when she gave up her career to raise her family. She was an incredible homemaker and was completely devoted to her family and her church.
Helen is survived by her children Virginia Cipriano and her husband Anthony of Bethlehem, Ernest Bernier and his wife Ludmilla of Chula Vista, CA, Gail Evangelista of West Chester, PA, Jean Bablonka and her husband Joseph of Anchorage, AK and Frederick J. Bernier and his wife Ellen of Telford, PA. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Anita Cipriano and her husband Robert Newell, Anthony Cipriano and his wife Lisa, Erin Bernier, Eric Bernier, Mark Evangelista and his wife Sharon, Matthew Evangelista, Laura and Eric Hoosier, Josh Bablonka, and Andrew Bernier as well as 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to Ernest, her husband of 29 years, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Dr. Simplicio Evangelista and her brother, Donald Mahoney.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 9:00am from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to Christ Episcopal Church for a Mass at 10:30am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
