Born August 10, 1922, in Clarksburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Clive Vernon Bailey and Mildred Bonita Beatty Bailey. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine June Bailey Simms and Carol Jo Bailey McMillian, and sister-in-law, Kathryn Adams Bailey.

Ruth attended and graduated from Wilsonburg Grade School, Adamston Junior High School, Victory High School, Floral Design School in Lakeland, Ohio, and Center Business College of Charleston, WV.

During the fifties, when her children were young, Ruth was employed at the Virginian Theater working the Popcorn and Candy Stand. In the sixties, she arranged flowers for the House of Flowers. In the early seventies, she attended Center Business College. After graduating, she became a Kelly girl and provided secretarial services to businesses with temporary openings. She worked frequently at Union Carbide. While filling a temporary opening at Kuhn Construction, Mr. Charles Kuhn, the owner of the company, asked her to be his personal secretary. She worked for Mr. Kuhn for ten years until his retirement. She continued with Kuhn Construction until it went out of business in the mid-eighties. After that she decided it was time for her to retire and spend more time enjoying family, friends, and her home.

Ruth was a member of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Glen Heather Garden Club and the Thousand Oaks Garden Club. During her forty years as a Thousand Oaks’ member, she frequently held the offices of secretary, vice president, or president. Ruth and Bill were members of the Charleston Tennis Club. While Bill played tennis, Ruth took advantage of the pool. Ruth always said her favorite hobby was shopping, but reading recipes, watching cooking shows, and preparing great food for her family was a close second. It was very important to her that she hostess and prepare family holiday meals. Ruth loved to share her recipes. As a result, family and friends will continue to serve and savor her favorites. Ruth collected owl figurines and enjoyed dressing a favorite stuffed owl (Hootie) for each season and holiday.
