Jack Strait Hicklin, Sr., 92, died on December 2nd at the C.M. Tucker, Jr. Nursing Care Center in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on June 4, 1925 to the late Marie McCrorey and Frank Walker Hicklin, Sr. in Edgemoor, South Carolina. He was married for 69 years to the late Judy Gardner Hicklin. Jack is preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Walker Hicklin, Jr., John Wylie Hicklin, Sr., James McCrorey Hicklin, and his sister, Sara Hicklin Lynn. Jack graduated from Edgemoor High School in 1942 where he played third base for the high school baseball team. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Jack worked as Parts Manager for Williams Chrysler-Plymouth in Rock Hill for forty years. He served as Deacon and Elder of First A.R.P. Church and as Treasurer for forty-one years. He was a member of the Rock Hill Jaycees and the Rock Hill Masonic Lodge 111. Jack loved to tell stories, especially about himself, and he loved to laugh. He was dedicated to his family, his church, and his work. He found great joy in visiting others, and never met a stranger. One of his favorite activities was walking, and he could be seen walking in many places around Rock Hill. He lived life to the fullest, and was happiest when serving others.

Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 7th with an 11:00 service to follow at First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 201 East White Street, Rock Hill, SC, with Drs. Barry Dagenhart and Robert J. Robinson officiating. Following the service, family and friends will meet at Edgemoor A.R.P. Church Cemetery, Edgemoor, SC for burial with military honors.

Jack is survived by his son, Strait Hicklin, of San Diego, California; his daughter, Judy Haas and husband Don of Powell, Tennessee; his grandson, Brian Haas, of Knoxville, Tennessee; his granddaughter, Lindsey Turner and husband John, of Richmond, Kentucky; two great granddaughters, Campbell and Conley Turner of Richmond, Kentucky; and brother-in-law Bob Gardner and wife Peggy of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He is also survived by many Hicklin nieces and nephews.
