Thornaby soldier Raymond Hall was killed by an IRA sniper in 1973 while serving in the Army with the 1st Battalion The Green Howards in Northern Ireland.
Raymond, 21, also known as Tapper, was serving as a driver while his unit was on a four-month tour and was shot in the back when an unknown gunman opened fire in East Belfast on February 7, 1973.
He died a few weeks later, on March 3, from his serious internal injuries.

In 2010 his siblings, Gillian, Peter and Mike, were presented with the Elizabeth Cross by Raymond's former platoon commander, General Sir Richard Dannatt, who had recently retired as Chief of the General Staff, the most senior officer in the Army.
The siblings' parents, Ella and Raymond, had since passed away.
General Dannatt said: "It has been a very important day for me because Tapper was a soldier in my platoon. I was probably the last person to talk to him.
"I feel very privileged to be able to present this to Raymond's family. This Elizabeth Cross is so important because I think anyone who makes this sacrifice on behalf of our nation deserves the right to be recognised for their bravery."
