COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY – 08/26/2018.
Thomas Lyons Becker Sr. passed away peacefully August 24, 2018. Tommy was born September 15, 1928 and grew up in the Portland neighborhood. He attended Our Lady's grade school and Flaget High School, graduating in 1946. He was a life-long practing Catholic. After high school, Tommy attended Western Kentucky University and Xavier University, both on basketball scholarships. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was deployed to Korea. Prior to leaving for Korea, Tommy married his loving wife, Janie McCoy in January 1951. Upon his leaving military service, a career in the wholesale liquor business was pursued where he worked for Jefferson Distributors and State Distributors for many years being the top salesman a dozen years or more for a new Bourbon at the time called Maker's Mark. Tommy left the wholesale portion of the liquor trade and owned and operated retail liquor stores until he retired. Upon retiring, he played a lot of golf and he and Janie traveled a great deal. Tommy was predeceased by his loving wife, Janie in 1995. He is survived by his 3 sons, Kim Anthony (Jill), Thomas Jr. & Mark Allan (Kim); his grandchildren, Mary Chris Ponder (Brad) and Scott Becker (Liz) and his beautiful great-granddaughter, Maggie Becker. His funeral Mass will be 12:00 noon Friday August 31, 2018 at Good Shepard Church (Our Lady's), 3511 Rudd Avenue. Visitation will 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be private at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Mass of the Air 1200 South Shelby St., Louisville, KY 40203 or to Hosparus of Louisville, 3532 Ephram McDowell Dr., Louisville, KY 40205. J.B.
