Calvin V. Thomas (February 28, 1928-October 25, 2018), age 90, of Hartford, passed away Thursday (October 25, 2018) at St. Francis Hospital.

He will be greatly missed by family members and friends.

Born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies, he was a longtime Hartford resident and worked for the Hartford Board of Education as a painter and window glazer for 26 years until his retirement.

Calvin was a longtime member of the West Indian Social Club of Hartford, was a former Mason, and was founder and longtime member of a band in Hartford named The Venturians.

Surviving Calvin are two sons, Gerald Thomas and his wife Patricia of Farmington and Junior Thomas of Hartford; a daughter, Barbara Thomas of Hartford. He is also survived by one sister, eight grandchildren, Nathan, Aaron, Christian, Ian, Aiden, Stephen, Natasha, and Errol, two great grandchildren as well as several nieces.

Calvin was recently predeceased by his son, Howard Thomas.

Funeral service was conducted on Thursday November 1, 2018 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 355 Camp Street, Forestville.

Calling hours were held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the church, then the funeral service followed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675--or to Our Heroes Fund, Inc., PO Box 270477, West Hartford, CT 06127.
