William N. Elkins, Jr. “Billy”, passed away at his home in Athens on Sunday, December 30, 2018.

Mr. Elkins, a lifelong resident of Limestone County was born on May 23, 1928 to William and Cora Pearl Elkins. He was a farmer, beekeeper, woodworker, and school bus driver. He was a member of New Hope Church of Christ for 66 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Floyd, Buford, Roy, Paul, Marvin and Houston, two sisters, Omie Leming and Mary Robinson.

Survivors include Dorothy Pack Elkins, his wife of 66 years; one daughter, Gayle Lentz; three grandchildren, Michael Crowell and wife Natonya, Julita Nix and husband Lee, Felix Lentz and Christy; four great-grandchildren, Kenlee Nix, Cotton Crowell, Hannah and Cole Barnes.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Bob Watson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy White, Max Arnold, Steve Pack, Houston Elkins, Larry Elkins and Talbot Elkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Felix Lentz and Michael Crowell. The Elkins and McCann families would like to say a special thanks to the wonderful ladies at Hospice of Limestone County, whose loving care was such a comfort to the family. Also to our wonderful caregivers, Mitzi Corruth, Lisa Moodyham and Gail Steadman.
