Charlene was born on May 10, 1928, in Sandwich, Illinois to parents Emery and Margaret (Seitzinger) Strode. She graduated from Sandwich High School in Sandwich, Illinois and on December 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Charles Donald Montgomery. She attended and volunteered at various churches throughout her life including- Federated Church in Sandwich, IL, Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock, IL, Hope Lutheran Church of Maryville, MO, Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong, WI, and the New Hope Lutheran Church in Minong, WI. She was a self proclaimed "Professional Volunteer" and donated her time to organizations such as- being a Girl and Boy Scout leader, the American Legion Auxiliary in Maryville, MO, the Red Cross, PTA in Woodstock, IL, and Maryville, MO, Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Woodstock, IL, Welcome Wagon Hostess, Washburn County Genealogical Society of Shell Lake, WI, and the Senior Center in Minong where she held various offices including President but most recently held the office of Chairman of the Board. In her spare time, she also enjoyed researching her family history and was an avid Quilter.
Charlene is survived by her 2 daughters and 3 sons: Caryl Montgomery, Carma Bomar, Clark (Candace) Montgomery, Craig (Gail) Montgomery, Chris (Barbara) Montgomery, 11 grandchildren: Heather (Pete) Stamm, Amanda Bomar, Adam Bomar, Dane (Mallory) Montgomery, Reade Montgomery, Shawn Montgomery, Trista Montgomery, Mark Kloepper, Amber (Kyle) Ellis, Heather Montgomery, Erica (Scott) Vana, 9 great grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Logan Stamm; Ean and Keely Drwiega; Ava Rose Mongomery; Liam, Lucas, and Madilynn Ellis; Jonathon Skalon; sister Ellene Cleveland, brother Charles "Chuck" (Shirley) Strode, and several nieces, nephew, cousins, and extended family.
Charlene is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Donald Montgomery, and daughter-in-law Pamela Montgomery.
Funeral services for Charlene Montgomery will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the Solon Springs Funeral Home with Brenda Kreyer and Jeff Vesta officiating. Music will be provided by Glenys Thorsen, William Hanner, and the Montgomery Boys. Visitation will be on Saturday at the Funeral Home from 10-11am. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Minong.
