Jerry Wayne Hopkins, 78, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018. Jerry had a stroke on December 10th as he was preparing to play golf, a game he loved with friends he cherished. Services will be Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur.
Jerry was born on December 15, 1940 in Texarkana, Texas to Henry and Myrtle Hopkins. He married Jane Hopkins in 1959 and had 2 sons, Gary Don Hopkins and Glen Wayne Hopkins. On October 30, 1987, Jerry married Bonnie Thompson and gained two daughters, Amy Beth Jeffreys and Jill Renae Shoush.
Jerry was a very patriotic veteran, serving in the Air Force and the National Guard. He spent his career working in law enforcement for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
In addition to his wife and 4 children, Jerry was survived by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Texas Fallen Officers Foundation.
