Clyde Gibson Payne 80, of Bowling Green, formerly of Columbia Heights, Minnesota died September 17, 2016 at 12:21 AM.. After four years in the Navy aboard aircraft carriers, Clyde began his career in television. He was Senior Vice President, Benedek Broadcasting Corp. (now Gray MidAmerica Television) and retired after 42 years in the television industry. Mr. Payne began his broadcasting career in both radio and television in 1960. Mr. Payne was named a Senior Vice President of Benedek Broadcasting in 1997. Prior to that he was a Divisional Vice President of the company from 1995 to 1997. Mr. Payne also served as General Manager of WBKO Television from 1970 to August 1997 and was part owner and President of WBKO from 1976 to 1983 when the station was sold to Benedek Broadcasting. Mr. Payne was Sales and Station Manager at KTHI-TV (now KVLY-TV), Fargo, North Dakota, where he worked from 1964-1970 in various capacities including Production Director, Operations Manager and Account Executive. Earlier, Mr. Payne served as News Director and anchor at KDIX-AM-TV, Dickinson, North Dakota. Mr. Payne launched his broadcasting career as a news reporter and disc jockey at KXJB-TV and KXGO-AM, Fargo, North Dakota. Mr. Payne has served as Chairman, Arbitron Television Advisory Council; Chairman, ABC Affiliates Association; and Vice Chairman, Television Board of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB).

In the community of Bowling Green, Mr. Payne served as President, Bowling Green-Warren County Chamber of Commerce; Bowling Green City Commissioner; Board Member, Bowling Green Municipal Utilities; Board Member, Bowling Green-Warren County Planning and Zoning Commission; Board Member, United Way; Board Member, National City Bank of Bowling Green; Board Member, Greenview Hospital; Member, Broadcast Advisory Board, Western Kentucky University, and President of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Board.

A graduate of North Dakota State University, Mr. Payne is survived by his wife Kay Eileen Hulebak Payne of Bowling Green, a son Blair Mitchell Payne of Nashville, TN, a daughter Andrea Lynn Payne Brady of Brentwood, TN and her husband Paul, a daughter Kristin Ann Payne Beach of Nashville, TN and her husband Tom. Also Mr. Payne is survived by six grandsons including Brandon Payne of Whitehouse, TN and his wife Jessica, Jason Payne of Colorado Springs, CO and his wife Jill, Austin Brady and Ethan Brady of Brentwood, TN, Braden and Boston Beach of Nashville, TN and three great grandchildren Ella and Liam Payne of Whitehouse, TN, and Oliver Payne of Colorado Springs, CO. Mr. Payne is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Margaret Hulebak Lien and her husband Richard Ronald Lien of Prior Lake, MN.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Clyde Payne scholarship fund for Holy Trinity Lutheran School or directly to Hospice House of Bowling Green, KY.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 9:O0 AM to 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 553 Ashmore Avenue in Bowling Green, KY 42101. The memorial service will be at 10:30 AM at HTLC followed by lunch at the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
