Lubbock- Johnnie Ward, 84, of Lubbock, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018. She was born in March of 1934 in Daugherty, Texas to Jim and Vera Owens. She graduated from Floydada High School, Class of 1951. Johnnie married Bill Ward in Floydada on August 24, 1952. Bill preceded her in death in 1995. She then married Charles Barton in September of 2001. Charles preceded her in death in 2012. Johnnie retired from Ryder Trucks after 15 years of service. She enjoyed many years of square dancing and round dancing, and also loved getting together with her friends to play Skip-Bo. Her life truly centered around her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Johnnie was a faithful member of Redbud Baptist Church for many years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers; George, Ed, Dale, Billy Fred and Chick Owens, and three sisters; Irene King, Evelyn Polland, and Alma Petty. Johnnie is survived by her sons; Wes and wife, Anita, Ward and Doug and wife, Brenda Ward, all of Lubbock, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be today, Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 2 PM at Redbud Baptist Church, with Reverend Carlos Hinojos, officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
